How long does it take for the sperm count to increase after varicocoele surgery?

Q: We have been married for 5 years and are trying for a child. We both went for a check up. Everything is fine with me. However, my husband's sperm count and motility is low. My husband underwent a surgery for varicocoele 3 weeks back. His semen was examined after this as well, but the doctor said that there is no significant raise and suggested him to take Clomoid. I read about varicocoele surgery on the Internet, which said that one can get immediate results and there is about 70% success rate in getting pregnant. But our doctor says it takes 3 months to increase the sperm after surgery. Is it true?

A:It will take upto one year to show positive results after varicocoele surgery. It depends upon the age of man at the time of surgery which means that it will take proportionate time for which it has been there. Meanwhile continue with some medicines as prescribed by your urologist. In addition, it is important to de stress you and your husband and it is better to have intercourse on alternate day or according to ovulatory period.
