How do I deal with stomach pain?

Q: I am 31 years old. As per my family doctor's diagnosis, I am suffering from chronic pancreatitis. I have severe pain in my stomach after every 3-4 hours if my stomach is empty, i.e. if I don't have food. What should I do to get rid of this pain? At present, I am taking tramazac and temptal.

A:I note that you have been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis. You complain of increased abdominal pain when your stomach is empty. Usually the pain of chronic pancreatitis is aggravated after taking food and the patients are often put on pancreatic enzyme supplements. You mention that you take tramazac, however its prolonged use is not advised. As your pain aggravates on empty stomach, it is important to know whether you are having any associated ulcer disease. I would advise that you should have an upper GI endoscopy to evaluate further the cause of your pain.
