How do I avoid frequent urinary infections?

Q: I am a 35 years old female with frequent urine infections for the last five months. Is treatment of both the partners necessary?

A:The treatment for both the partners may not be needed. However, it is essential to follow precautions for both the partners to avoid recurrent urine tract infection for females. You should maintain perfect pre and post intercourse hygiene. Particularly, thorough wash of vagina after every intercourse helps. It would be helpful for females to take one tablet of Septran (800 mg), if not allergic to sulpha, just before or immediately after every intercourse. Have plenty of fluids and keep the bladder empty.
