How can toxoplasmosis scar be treated?
Q: My 10 years old son has a scar in his eye’s macula. The doctor told us that it is an old infection caused by toxoplasmosis. His right eye vision is 6/6 and the left eye vision is 6/60. Can this be treated?
A:Toxoplasmosis scar in the macular area cannot be treated satisfactorily as it is birth-acquired infection during the mother's pregnancy. Even if any treatment was possible, as the eye and brain has developed lazy eye, vision itself will not improve. I don't want you to think that the eye is useless. It has got very wide visual field, which will give your son a good navigational vision with that eye along with his good eye.
