How can the pain in my bones and muscles be treated?

Q: I am a 68 years old woman taking the drug Letrozole 2.5 mg daily and now my bone density has gone down. Now I am taking Actonal 75 mg twice per month and I am having a lot of pain in the bones and muscles. Please advise.

A:You have not given the reason for your taking letrozole but I presume you are suffering from breast malignancy. It is not uncommon for post-menopausal women to suffer from osteoporosis. In addition the side effects of letrozole include pain in bones and joints. Risedronate (Actonal) is indicated in the treatment of osteoporosis in menopausal women to reduce the risk of fractures. I am not sure whether risedronate will reduce the symptoms of pain.
