Q: I am a 30 years old man suffering from migraine for the last ten years. I am taking Brufen 400 mg and Stemetil, but off late the effectivity and duration of control has been reduced. Please advise.

A:The management of migraine involves two steps: prevention of attacks and treatment of acute attacks. It is not clear whether you are taking any preventive medicine such as propranolol, valproic acid, flunarizine etc. If preventive medication is not taken, repeated and regular use of pain killers such as Brufen for frequent attacks leads to rebound attacks. The medicines for acute attacks are: sumatriptan, rizatriptan, ergotamine (sold as Migranil) etc.
