How can I dissuade my son from chewing his lower lip?
Q: My son is 15 months old. He has recently developed a habit of eating his lower lips. He presses his teeth hard on his lower lip. We have tried to divert his attention, but it doesn't help. How can I dissuade him from chewing his lower lip?
A:Instead of getting unduly upset, it's often best to be a little patient. Some behaviour in infancy are simply temporary phases. The chewing of the lower lip could be due to teething. Infants are constantly experimenting with their bodies. Try giving him something to chew on, as he may be teething. You can also try putting some vaseline on his lips to avoid his chewing the lips.
