How can constant coughing be treated?

Q: My 3 years and 8 months old daughter is 11 kg in weight and her height is 92 cm. She is having cough for the past 12 months. She has been given medicines like Distaclor, Predone, Benadryl, Salmucolite, etc. along with steam inhalation, but it gives no relief. She coughs constantly during the day and it becomes worse while sleeping. She has difficulty in breathing and vomits often due to persistent coughing. Last month, the doctor told us that she has pollen/mucous allergy and prescribed Aerocart inhaler spray along with Decdak and Mucolite syrup, however her coughing problem still continues. Please advise.

A:You need to be clear whether the cough is a result of wheezing. If so she may need a inhaler for the entire year. Using Salbutamol as well as a steroid inhaler on a regular basis may provide relief and prevent recurrent episodes. In case this is due to repeated viral infections discuss the benefit of giving influenza vaccine.
