How can age related macular degeneration (ARMD) be treated?
Q: My 65 years old mother has age related macular degeneration (ARMD). She has been advised photodynamic therapy (PDT)/ Muoline Inj/ Avastine by different retinologists. Which of these is the best?
A:Wet ARMD stands for Age Related Macular Degeneration. In this age related condition a membrane develops below the retinal layers and affects vision in one or both eyes. There are various modalities of treatment including Avastin, Lucentis, PhOtodynamic therapy amongst others, depending on the size, and location of the membrane. A specialist in retina who has experience with all these modalities will be able to guide you better based on a fresh fundus fluorescein angiography and optical coherence tomography (OCT).
