Hepatitis B vaccine

Q: I have suffered from Tubercolosis (TB) three times. I am on full medication and now all most recovering. I was taking consultancy from Appollo hospital Delhi. I also suffered from juandice once. I would like to know if I can take the injection of hepatities B. Please guide me how to go about it.

A:History of jaundice in the past is not a contraindication to the use of hepatitis B vaccine. However, if the jaundice was due to infection with hepatitis B, you would develop natural protection against this virus and would not need the vaccine. Previous hepatitis B infection can be easily determined by laboratory tests.
