Heart valve - aspirin

Q: I am 46 years old and have been taking two 325 mg aspirin a day for 3 years. I have a bicuspid heart valve. Is this harmful? Should I be taking a lower dosage of aspirin?

A:If you are taking aspirin 2x 325 mgs for prevention of some theoretical problems for a bicuspid valve, you need not take it. It is of no use in your case and may unnecessarily give you side effects. Bicuspid aortic valve is a common entity and does not require drugs like aspirin. You only need to take antibiotics before any orodental or genitourinary procedure to prevent infection of the valve.
