Giddiness - vertigo
Q: For a long time I have been experiencing some sort of dizziness when I suddenly get up from a sitting position or sleeping position. For a second or two I feel very cold all over my body and my mind doesn't do anything. I had a heavy lunch, slept for a while and when I woke up i felt the same kind of dizziness, but this time it was for a little long. I took it for the same kind of dizziness and went to toilet. Suddenly I found my self sitting down where I was standing. I don't know what exactly happened and i checked the time. I lost consciousness for 2 minutes. Why does this happen? Is it because of any vitamin deficiency? I eat every thing and take a lot of vegetables in my diet. Please help me out in this matter.
A:You have positional vertigo. I think a doctor should check your BP in lying and standing position. If the BP falls by 20 mm on standing and if it reaches 90 systolic you require further investigations. If there is no fall you may take Tablet Vertin 1 twice a day for 7-8 days and see. The unconsciousness you had while passing urine is called micturition syncope (micturition is the medical term for passing urine). It is harmless. It occurs more if the bladder is too full e.g. you had a party and drinks but may occur without it also. If it occurs more than once you should get used to the idea of passing urine sitting down.
