Eyes - iritis

Q: I am a confirmed patient of Ulcerative Colitis (left side lower portion for last 5 years. Last Sept. I had problem in my right eye which was declared Iritis by eye specilaist. I was told that it is a result/effect of UC and it can happen anytime and I have been advised to put Solodex eye drop whenever I have these symptoms. It has happend 3-4 times in last 7 months. I took advice of two senior Eye specialists and both said the same but one said this treatment is incomplete. Proper investigations must be done but two doctors differ with this view. I do feel heavyness in my eyes sometimes. Please suggest me what to do in my case.

A:Iritis associated with ulcerative colitis needs to be treated under doctor supervision, every episode should be treated for 4-6 weeks so that recurrance rate is less. The treatment includes steroid drops (like solodex) and cycloplegic drops. Other medications may be added on the doctors advice. There are two schools of thought as for tests to diagnose the underlying problem. In your case your underlying problem is already diagnosed, you do not require any tests.
