Eye blood clot

Q: My siter got blood clots in her left eye. She is a diabetic patient. Doctor treating has prescribed some medicines. The clot has not gone even after 12 days. She is able to see only large objects with this eye. The right eye is having cateract problem. Her Doctor advised for laser surgery for the right eye. She is staying in a small town called Hubli. Her sugar level had gone beyond 300 when she got this clot. Now it is around 190/200. She has been suffering from diabetes for the last 15 years. My question is whether the clot will disappear and whether she will have normal eyesight. Whether it is advisable to go for laser surgery or to go for regular cateract operation using a good lens for the right eye by controlling diabetes. Please adviceRegardssubharaman

A:Your sister is most likely suffering from diabetic retinopathy -proiferative type which requires laser surgery urgently , if the bleeding is massive then laser may not be possible.always get both eyes checked up. cataract surgery is done when laser photocoagulation is not possible through the cataract. kindly consult aretina specialist for her diabetic retinopathy. the blot clot can take upto 6 months to absorb.
