Q: I have hypothyroidism and have been taking Eltroxin 100 mcg per day for the past month and a half. My query is regarding the side effects of Eltroxin; does it lead to hair fall? I have been having serious hair loss recently.

A:Thyroxine is perhaps the safest drug available among all the medications. It has side effects only in case there is overdose. Hair fall is not related to the drug but likely due to any disease/stress but this is reversible. Another possibility is a disease of hair so in case there is too much hair loss, contact a skin specialist but I suggest you do so after getting your TSH level estimated.
