Does Eldervit treat burning sensation in palms and legs?
Q: I am a 33 years old man experiencing burning sensation in my both legs and both palms for the last five years. Due to this, I am unable to sleep at night and put ice packs on my leg and palm before sleeping. The doctor advised me to take Eldervit injection. I have taken three injections so far. But the doctor has asked me to take 15 injections. Am I on right treatment?
A:Unless the cause of burning sensation is established, giving medicines blindly may not be very rational. Eldervit contains vitamins A, B-1, B-2, B-6, B-12, niacinamide, vitamin C and vitamin D. If your burning sensation is not due to deficiency of one or more vitamins, no purpose will be served. Decades ago, it was thought that deficiency of vitamins B-1, 6, 12 might be responsible for peripheral neuritis leading to burning sensation. However, there was no evidence of such a theory. Consequently, all preparations of vitamins B-1, 6 and 12 were banned in all advanced countries including India. In order to escape ban (purely for commercial gain), some manufacturers resorted to adding other ingredients of hardly any clinical use. Thus Neurobion (banned) became Neurobion Forte. In your case if at all there is suspicion of vitamin B factors deficiency, the rational approach is to get blood levels of vitamins B factors (B-1, B-2, B-6, B-12) checked and then take a factor in which there is deficiency.
