Does Azithromycin have any adverse effect on the fetus?

Q: I took Azithral 250 mg (marketed by Alembic) for viral fever without knowing that I was pregnant. I want to know the effects, if any, of Azithral on my child? My doctor suggested that the effect of Azithral may be on the auditory nerves and so there is a possibility of the child being deaf. Can I continue my pregnancy or terminate it? This is my first pregnancy and I am married for only 4 months.

A:Azithral has no role to play in any viral infection; hence you took it without any benefit and at risk of side effects. Azithromycin (Azithral) does not have any adverse effects on the baby born to mothers who have consumed this drug during pregnancy. There is no reason to terminate pregnancy.
