Do I really need to take hormones to support my pregnancy?

Q: I am 35 years old and pregnant. This is my first pregnancy. My doctor prescribed duvadilan 10 mg three times a day since the beginning of the eighth week. She also said I should be placed on hormones due to my age. Please let me know what is the appropriate time to start hormones and how long it will continue?

A:Duvadilan does not act on the uterus till it is at least 22 weeks in size. Therefore, there is no role of this drug. On ultrasound, if the cardiac activity of the baby is fine, you do not need any support, however, if hormonal support is given precautionarily, it should be taken till 12 weeks of pregnancy.
