Do I need to lose weight before conceiving?
Q: I am 28 years old, married since 5 years and have a 4 years old daughter. I am thinking of planning for a second baby but I feel I am overweight. I am 65 kgs and worried that during pregnancy, I may put on a lot more weight. How do I control weight during pregnancy or should I reduce some weight first and then plan?
A:Yes, you are overweight for your height. Your ideal body weight should not be more than 55 Kg for your height. I would advise you to lose some weight first. You cannot restrict diet during pregnancy to avoid putting on weight - that will lead to problems in the baby. You only can decide what you want - to have another baby and risk putting on some weight as a result of the second pregnancy or not have a second baby.
