Q: What is cardiomegaly? What is its treatment?
A:Cardiomegaly is the condition in which there is an enlargement of the heart which may leads to heart failure. The patient may experience symptoms like weakness, shortness of breath, tightening of the chest and swelling of the feet and legs. The main causes of cardiomegaly are high blood pressure, defective heart valves, inflammation of the heart muscles, severe anaemia and thyroid disorders. Treatment depends on the cause of cardiomegaly which will be determined by the treating cardiologist.
