Can weight gain be the cause for not conceiving?

Q: I am a 27 years old mother of a 4 years old daughter. We are trying for another issue for the past two years. I didn’t take any medicine to control birth. This month during my periods I had heavy bleeding for twelve days, I went to the doctor who gave me some medicines but I still get little blood spots. Why is the spotting occuring? Can we have intercourse in this situation? I want to reduce my weight, how can I do that? What kind of diet do I have to take? Please send me a diet programme, which will not effect my hormones.

A:Did you gain a lot of weight after the first delivery? That may be contributing to your inability to get pregnant. It may also contribute to the erratic periods. It is a great idea to try to reduce weight. I do not have access to any diet right now, but the internet is full of various diet programs. In USA, the South Beach diet has become very popular. You may want to look at it on the internet. In general, cutting down on carbohydrates (breads, rice, potatoes, sweets) and fats helps. Increase the vegetable and protein intake, and cut down on the portion size. In addition, start exercising. That will boost your metabolic rate.
