Can missing menses lead to infertility?

Q: I am a 21 years old girl. I went for an ultra sound as I missed periods for a year at a stretch. I was told that my uterus is infertile and is smaller than the normal size I should have at my age. Could this be the cause for missing periods? Is there any medication and can missing periods lead to infertility?

A:Yes it can lead to infertility, but, you need a full work up of tests of hormone levels and follow up with a gynaecologist, to start on treatment to have reqular menses. The size of the uterus can improve and subsequent pregnancy can take place after treatment. The exact cause of the disorder needs to be diagnosed further.
