Can I take the vaccine for cervical cancer?
Q: Can I take the cervical cancer vaccine? I am a 26 years old woman and have heard that the vaccine is for the people aged between 9 and 26 years. Can I still go for it?
A:There is no vaccine, which can prevent all types of cervical cancers. There are many known and unknown causes of cervical cancer including genetic reasons. One of the causes is HPV infection. There are many strains of the virus. Currently the available vaccine contains protection against 4 of the viruses. Generally women at risk (such as multiple male sex partners who do not use barrier contraception) are likely to be benefit most.
