Can I take Fefol Z tablets instead of Ferronine?
Q: I am in the seventh month of pregnancy and my doctor has asked me to take Fefol Z tablets instead of previously prescribed Ferronine, which is not available in the market. Is it adequate to fulfil my iron needs during this stage of pregnancy? Also, how do I know that my weight gain and diet is accurate?
A:More important than iron is the absolute necessity of taking adequate amount of folic acid, which prevents defects in the baby. Fefol Z contains 0.5 mg of folic acid, which is the most minimum required. It would be better to take a product that contains somewhat higher amount of folic acid such as Globac-Z Softules (Zydus Cadila) which apart from adequate amount of iron contains 1.5 mg of folic acid. Dose is one daily.
