Can I have a child after a history of TB, depression and diabetes?
Q: I had a miscarriage after two months of pregnancy. Later I became pregnant again and everything was normal (my weight, BP, fetal movements etc). The first ultrasound was done in the fourth month and then in the sixth month and the doctor told me everything is normal. At the end of the eighth month I got labour pains and, after the ultrasound, the doctor said that my fetal liquid is less and the babys heart is weak, but nothing to worry. She also said that due to breech presentation I need to undergo operation. As it was my first baby I was very excited but unfortunately after the operation I was told that the baby is born with multiple anomalies and he cannot survive. After 10 hrs the baby died. How is it that till the end they said everything is fine and then everything was smashed. Due to depression I could not recover quickly. I consulted a doctor who confirmed that I am having miliary TB With the moral support of my husband and parents I gained some confidence and I started the treatment course of six months. Doctors suggested to take more food and juices. I lost almost 10 kgs. I again consulted the doctor who now told me that I had diabetes. I could not believe it. I was almost half dead. Now my sugar is under control. My problem is will I become pregnant and if yes, what precautions should I take? My periods are regular and the chromosomal test(karyotyping test for both of us) is also normal.
A:If you are planning a pregnancy, please make sure that your HbA1c is within normal limits and the blood sugar control is adhered to. As soon as pregnancy. is confirmed you will be shifted to Insulin as the oral drugs are not given in pregnancy. I hope your TB medicines are over. Also please start a tablet of Folic acid. Incidentally you haven't mentioned the fetal anomalies and the fetal autopsy report.
