Can I go on a Medifast diet?
Q: I am a 37 years old woman. I had a kidney transplant done 7 years back. All my lab reports are normal. I want to go on the Medifast diet to lose weight. I want to reduce 60 pounds. This diet permits about 1000 calories a day, involving a high intake of protein. Something like 90 grams per day. Will this damage my transplanted kidney?
A:Such high protein diet is not at all recommended for transplant patients. It is likely to damage your kidney, and I would not recommend it. I suggest that you go on a standard reducing diet with plenty of exercises like walking and a reasonable amount of work outs.
