Can I donate my liver to my father?
Q: My father has been diagnosed with cancer of the liver. He is currently undergoing treatment to get rid of it. The doctors say that he needs to get the liver replaced once the cancer shrinks to a certain size. Is there a way I can donate my liver to him, if the cancer doesn't shrink to the correct size? Also, if I can donate a part of my liver; how risky is the surgery?
A:Yes, you can donate part of your liver for your father's transplantation. I would like to have a full CT report of your father so that I can comment whether it is feasible. Generally tumours less than 8 cms in size and without venous invasion can be successfully transplanted.
