Can I conceive at 39?

Q: I am 39 years old with a 7 years old girl. Since last year I have high blood pressure and have been taking medication (telmastatin 20 mg). When there is tension at home, my BP. rises to 180/120 mmhg. Under such conditions, can I conceive? Will the pregnancy period be safe? Will the baby be normal?

A:All pregnancies in women over the age of 36 years are considered risky. This is irrespective of the blood pressure, whether normal or not. Use of telmisartan during pregnancy is NOT permitted since the babys exposure to this drug can cause both fetal and neonatal morbidity, serious and severe malformation and even death. Telmisaratn is also not allowed to be used during breast feeding. You should very carefully think whether it is worth trying to conceive. In the meantime please use effective contraception so that even by mistake you do not become pregnant due to inherent danger to the foetus.
