Can homonymous hemianopia be cured?
Q: My 48-year-old brother met with an accident fifteen years back. He was rushed to the hospital and immediately he underwent a surgery to remove a clot from the brain. Since then he has been suffering from honomomous hemianopia. He cannot see on his right side from both the eyes. He had taken dilantin tablets for 7-8 years. But there is no recovery. Is there any solution to get rid of this disease? Will hemianopic glasses, surgery or medicine, give him relief?
A:Homonymous hemianopia is a result of the injury to a particular part of the brain. Some recovery can occur in the first few months and occasionally within 1-2 years. I am very sorry to say that it will not recover now and there are no treatments anywhere in the world that will help.
