Can DPT and OPV boosters be given a day after polio immunisation?

Q: We have a two years old daughter. We missed her DPT and OPV booster which should be given at 16-24 months of age but yesterday she received pulse polio immunisation. Can we now give both of the above vaccinations? Can I give Hib and Hepatitis B vaccine? She hasn’t received these vaccinations too. How many doses of Hib should she get?

A:You will have to wait for one month after the pulse polio vaccination. You can then simultaneously give one shot of the five vaccines DPT, OPV/IPV, Hib and hepatitis B. However, two doses of hepatitis B vaccination will also need to be given subsequently - one and six months later to complete the immunization schedule. Ideally, three doses of Hib are required and one booster between 16 and 24 months. However, at this age, you may not need to give all because of naturally acquired immunity in most children and only one dose may suffice.
