Can breast cancer be cured?
Q: My grandmother is 70 years old and she has been detected with breast cancer. Her report states that she has infiltrating duct carcinoma. The doctor says that it is in between the first and second stage. She also has diabetes. Please advise.
A:The breast cancer at this stage is potentially curable. However, more details on size of tumour, skin, lymph node involvement etc are required to tell the precise prognosis. Breast cancer is treated first with surgery (if tumour is operable). Depending on the pathology report of the excised tumour, further radiotherapy, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy may be required.
