Are there any drugs for high blood urea?

Q: My mother is 63 years old and has creatinine of 3 mg/dl, urea 168 mg/dl and uric acid 6.1 mg/dl. What should we do to control her urea, which I consider the most important.

A:Urea and creatinine are indirect measures of kidney function or dysfunction. One needs to look for a specific cause of the deterioration and also if there are any reversible causes which can be corrected. There is no specific drug to lower urea and creatinine. Once specific causes are corrected, kidney function might improve.
