Are prostatic massages effective in treating prostatitis?
Q: Is it safe to get done vigorous prostatic massage twice weekly from a urologist, along with anti-biotics for the treatment of chronic prostatitis? Can it do any harm to the prostate?
A:Prostatic massage is a cruel treatment. I don't do this and don't advise my patients. It may done once only for diagnostic purpose but not as a therapy. As such prostatitis is over-diagnosed. Alpha blockers do well.
