Are omega 3 fatty acids of plant origin?

Q: I want to take Omega 3 fatty acids for lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels. But the capsules available in the market contain fish oil, hence I cannot take them. I am looking for a product which has omega 3 fatty acid and is of plant origin. It should not have any connection with fish or animals. Are there any medicines available, which are strictly for vegetarians?

A:Omega 3 Fatty Acids (FA) are indicated as the 2nd line treatment of high triglycerides with high or normal low density lipoproteins (LDL) only. These acids are naturally occurring and are obtained from certain specified varieties of fish. I am not aware of any synthetic Omega 3 FAs.
