Tuberculosis can be prevented
The most important step is to find, isolate and treat all patients until they are no longer infective and a risk to others. It is advisable not to get too close to people who are coughing; equally, people with a cough should be aware of those around them and cover their mouth while coughing. The BCG immunisation increases a person’s immunity to TB and protects against the more severe forms of disease such as TB meningitis.
