Will smoking lead to relapse of TB?
Q: I have been suffering from TB since 5 years. My doctor gave me the necessary course for 6 to 9 months. Thereafter, I was completely cured. Will this disease come back if I do not quit smoking? There are scar marks in the X-Ray. Can these scar marks be completely got rid off, with no trace or sign of the same in the X-rays?
A:Smoking as it is injurious. Smokers are at high risk for developing lung cancer. They are also at high risk for developing coronary artery disease, cerebro-vascular accidents etc. Plus smokers are very prone to get repeated attacks of lung infections, chronic bronchitis, emphysema etc. After a complete treatment the chances of recurrence do remain as much as in any other persons. But if you lead a normal healthy life, you will remain healthy. Regarding scars in your lung, well they will remain. A proper investigation at time of seeking jobs abroad will rule out fresh infection.
