Will scars of transplanted hair disappear over time?

Q: I got hair transplantation done some 7 years back. But now I am not comfortable with it, as it has become visible. Therefore, I started shaving the transplanted hair. However, some elevation on the skin at root of the transplanted hair are there and look unnatural. Kindly advise whether these elevations (scars) disappear with time.

A:I presume you got the hair transplant done by the older technique of larger grafts which tend to show up, and are aesthetically not very pleasing. The system by which it is done now is using the Follicular technique, using the Mini- and Micro-grafts. The elevations will probably not go away with time, and in case they bother you, surgical correction can be done. The transplanted hair can be removed, or re-aligned to give a natural appearance. To let you know about hair transplant (HT), which is done at our clinic by the Mini-and Micro- graft technique, the hair which are transplanted in the bald area are permanent, do not fall, grow like normal hair and subsequently need hair cuts. You can apply oil or shampoo on them and comb them to your desired style. The operation is done on an out patient basis and the patient goes home immediately after the operation.
