Why does my father have burning sensation while urinating?
Q: My 61 years old diabetic father has an enlarged prostate gland. He experiences abdominal pain and burning sensation while urinating. What should we do?
A:I note that your father has prostate symptoms and that he is having pain while passing urine. This to me suggests that he has urinary infection and this is due to the combination of the prostate gland that is enlarged and causes compression on the urine tube. This leads to retention of the urine in the bladder, which gets infected giving rise to his symptoms. His diabetes can also contribute to the symptoms. He needs to consult a urologist without delay for investigations, diagnosis and treatment.
