Why does my baby feel uncomfortable while passing urine and motion?

Q: Our baby is 25 days old. While passing urine and motion he feels uncomfortable even in his sleep. He has a gastric problem too. After passing gas or urine he feels comfortable. His motions are watery and lose. Is this normal? His breast feeding is proper. My wife has hypothyroidism and is taking 100 mg Thyroxin every day. My wife also has pain in her breast. Please advise us on how to reduce the pain as sometimes she finds it very difficult to feed?

A:It is normal for babies to behave like that for stool/urine. If the baby is passing adequate urine (>5 times/day) then stools are not of panic usually. Please check thyroid levels (TSH, Free T3, T4 levels) in your baby. Regarding your wife pain results from fullness of breast. She must manually or by pump express out her milk- will relieve her pain. Don't allow the breast to get hard. Also, she can use hot fermentation to relieve the pain.
