Why do I have pain at the bottom of my tailbone?

Q: I have pain at the bottom of my tailbone. It feels like a bruise. On the bottom facing away from me, there is a little bump (the size of a large pea) where it pains. Of course, I do not know if the bump has always been there because I never felt the back, bottom of my tail bone before. I have not fallen or anything to cause the pain, other then sleeping on a hard floor about a month ago.

A:If you have a bump, please have it examined it by an orthopaedic surgeon. If the bump is still lower down, please consult a general surgeon. Coccydynia is a pain at the tail bone and resolves spontaneously or after use of a ring cushion. other serious conditions like tumours of the tail bone have to be ruled out by your doctor after appropriate scans.
