Why do I feel the desire for sex all the time?

Q: I want sex more often than I can have it; that is everyday or at least every other day. I am not married. Actually, I have never had sexual intercourse. I had sex with my boyfriend which was just kissing, masturbating and stuff like that. I am stressed about wanting it, mostly at nights. I feel guilty about having sex and about wanting sex. In addition, I cannot concentrate in my classes or anything else when I want sex. I used to be a good student but now I feel that even my GPA is going to go down. I cannot talk to a doctor in person. Are there any kinds of medication that I could take to reduce my sexual desires?

A:It seems that you perceive your sexual desires as unusually high which is causing a lot of distress to you. However, I would like to make one thing very clear that at this age it is absolutely normal and in fact, healthy to have such kind of desires. It is understandable that there are a lot of constraints in your life, due to which your sexual desires remain unfulfilled leading to frustration. However, it is extremely important for your peace of mind that you give some vent to these sexual needs. The best way of doing this within your means is masturbation. There are a lot of myths around masturbation which lead to unwanted feelings of guilt and shame. However, it is a scientifically known and proven fact that masturbation is not only a normal sexual behaviour but is also good for a healthy psychosexual development of an individual. A good option for clearing such doubts and misconceptions is to take professional help from a counselor/psychiatrist. All the best!
