Q: I would like to know what is the best IV fluid to be started in an emergency head injury case before investigations could be carried out? Because some surgeons prefer 5%P/D and some said that we should start with Dextrose Saline. Please clarify.

A:It makes no difference. Any fluid will do to keep the vein open. If the blood pressure is low and requires fluids to bring it up it is very rarely due to the head injury. Look for another cause!
