Q: Please let me know at what age can atrial septal defect (ASD) be detected? Is it possible to recognise it at the age of 25 to 28 yrs and can it be due to continuous mental tension and strain?

A:ASD is a hole in the upper portion of the heart and is present from birth. It can be diagnosed at any age if it is suspected or as a chance finding. It can never be caused by stress and tension etc.
