What precautions should be taken to keep the baby healthy?

Q: My wife has hypertension and delivered a girl 2 days ago. She weighs 2 kg and has got soft skin because of my wife's hypertension. She looks like she'd was drained out. I am afraid if the baby can get any complications and not survive. What precautions should we take to maintain her health, especially in the matter of feeding?

A:Please give the baby small frequent feeds (2 hourly) preferably breast feeds. Monitor her growth carefully by checking weight weekly; length and head circumference monthly. Maintain her body temperature. Do not overheat her or allow her to get cold. Maintain hygiene and bathe her daily. Wash your hands with soap and water every time before you handle the baby.
