What precautions need to be undertaken Post-CABG?

Q: My father, a known diabetic for 12 years, had undergone CABG recently and regularly takes the tables prescribed. What is the lifespan of this surgery and do heart attacks still come. Please suggest a diet and exercises to overcome another attack.

A:Post CABG the prognosis is good. However regular check up, keeping cholesterol very low, blood sugar and BP in normal range is very neceesary. Most such patients shold be on Aspirin, cholesterol lowering drug STATIN ,and ACE inhibitors for life. I hope he is taking all these measures besides regular exercise, no smoking and very low fat diet. All these measures prolong survival.
