What medicine shall cure Entamoeba histolytica infection?

Q: I am underweight and my stool test report shows the presence of trophozoites of E. histolytica & epithelial cells. Earlier my physician prescribed Albendzole for this, but it doesn't seem to work. I don't feel hungry and feel lazy too. I have tried to gain weight by eating a healthy diet & working out, but it did not help. What medicine should I take to cure this?

A:Albendazole will not work against Entamoeba histolytica. Please check with your doctor for a prescription of Metronidazole/Tinidazole. Also, to prevent recurrences you shall have to improve personal hygiene, and drinking water quality. Please filter/boil the drinking water. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after going to the toilet. Do not eat/drink water outside your home, especially where you are not sure of the quality of food/water.
