What is the reason for swelling in my nose?

Q: I am using Otrivine for nasal congestion. Why do I have swelling in the nose? Is this because of sinusitis or what? I cannot inhale properly and my nose is also looking slightly twisted because of this. Please suggest.

A:Don't use Otrivine or other decongestant drops or sprays for more than a few days as it can make congestion more persistent. Bony obstructions to the nose can be septal deviation, bony spurs or enlarged turbinates, which in some cases may need surgical treatment. Sometimes these problems are due to old injuries, but they can occur for other reasons too.
