What is the cause of white patches near my daughter's eye?

Q: We spotted a small depigmented patch on the outer corner of the right eye of our 10-year-old daughter. We consulted two senior dermatologists, both carried out woods lamp test on the face. However, both have differed in their diagnosis. One says that it is vitiligo as the patches are visible during woods lamp test. The other feels that it is not vitiligo as the patches, though visible during woods lamp test, are not absolutely white in nature. We are confused. Please guide us.

A:Vitiligo or previtiligo is definitely a possibility. Follow up will make things clear. Other possibilities to consider include post inflammatory hypopigmentation (which usually gets OK on its own) and even tinea versicolor (though its is infrequently seen around the eyes).
