What is cryptozoospermia?

Q: I am a 35 years old male who underwent sperm analysis, which showed normal colour (whitish grey), value - 2.8 ml. Result showed cryptozoospermia, viscosity is normal, ph - 7.5, fructose is present and a few sperms are seen there. What is this?

A:Cryptozoospermia means few sperm in the ejaculate that none are seen on an initial evaluation, but only after centrifugation and concentration of the sample. Men with this condition have lower fertilization and pregnancy rates than that obtained for men with higher numbers of spermatozoa in the ejaculate. Depending on the age of your wife (if older than 30), you will probably need a testis biopsy and she will need to undergo IUI / IVF in order for you to father a child.
