What is Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH)?

Q: We have been blessed with a baby girl born through c-section last month. However, she has a condition called Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) and we are trying to understand and deal with it. She is still at the hospital, undergoing various tests. Is there any awareness/treatment for this condition either through allopathy or homeopathy/ayurveda?

A:Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia is a genetic condition that occurs due to an abnormality in the adrenal glands, which is a pair of glands situated on top of the kidney. Due to this abnormality certain essential hormones are not produced and others are produced in excess, which may cause various problems to the baby, especially a female baby. This condition can be treated by giving the baby hormones that are not being produced by her adrenal gland and this treatment would also suppress the unwanted hormones. The treatment is allopathic and is fairly simple. There is no ayurvedic or homeopathic medicine available for this condition.
